Driver CPC changes: what actually applies from October

The periodic training rules have shifted again, and most of what is being shared in driver Facebook groups is out of date. Here is the short version, for drivers and for the transport managers signing the training off.

What has changed

The headline is flexibility rather than reduction. The 35-hour requirement over five years has not moved. What has changed is how those hours can be split, and which training counts towards them.

What it means if you drive

If your card is due inside the next twelve months, nothing about your plan needs to change. If it is due later, you may be able to spread the training differently — worth a conversation before you book a block week off.

What it means if you hire

Check the expiry dates on your regular agency drivers, not just your own. We hold CPC and card expiries for everyone on our books and flag them before they lapse, which is the part that usually catches operators out.
